I joined as a composer, do I need to apply again if I also write lyrics?

Yes, you also need to join as an author. SACEM membership has separate categories. If you meet the conditions for author status, i.e. you have written at least 5 works, at least one of which has been performed or released, you need to fill out an Application Form as an author. However, you will not need to provide your ID, since SACEM already has a copy, nor pay an admission fee again.

How can a band join SACEM?

Sacem recognizes bands of authors-composers-performers (songwriters-artists) as follows:

  • each member of the band joins individually,
  • all members point out in the application which band(s) they belong to,
  • all members sign a letter to SACEM giving the name of the band and the names of all members,
  • all members inform SACEM of any change in a letter signed by all (including any new member joining the band and/or any member leaving the band).

SACEM, which distributes individual royalty payments to each member, will thus be able to track the works written by the band.
